Classroom Info
Attendance:
Supervision is provided on the primary playground beginning at 8:45 a.m. Your child may be dropped off at 8:45 to play until the 9:00 bell rings. I will pick up the children on the primary playground each morning at 9:00. Please do not have your child wait outside the classroom, as there is no supervision at that time. If your child arrives after 9:05 a.m. please check your child in at the front office before sending them to class to ensure they will not be marked absent. Attendance is computerized, and we are required to enter absences into the computer by 9:10.
After School Pick Up:
The dismissal bell rings at 3:35 p.m. You may pick up your child outside the gates in front of the school. Please tell your child before school if they will be picked up by car or by a “walking” chaperone. If you decide to park and wait for your child in person your child is considered a “walker” on that day.
Birthdays:
We love to celebrate birthdays at school. You may send or bring in a treat to share with the class such as cookies, muffins, cupcakes, stickers, pencils or other small items. Please let me know your plans in advance.
Recess:
The children have a 15-minute recess each day. Students eat their snack and then play on the primary playground. Please send a nutritious snack to school with your child each day.
Lunch:
Lunch will be a 40-minute time period each day. The first 20 minutes will be spent in the lunch arbor to eat their lunch, and last 20 minutes will be spent play on the primary playground.
Daily Envelope:
Your child will be bringing home a daily envelope from Room 5. Please check it daily for any important notes from school. Please return your child’s folder daily, even if it is empty.
Discipline:
There are some simple and basic rules to follow in Room 5, which are really an extension of good manners. Please review these rules with your child, and explain the importance of them.
1. Show respect to yourselves and others.
2. Listen and follow directions.
3. Do your best work.
There are many ways I reward students positively, both individually and as a whole class. The color system is used for individual behavior. Each child starts the day with his/her clip on green. Green represents a great day. The color chart consists of four colors.
Green = Following directions and having a great day
Yellow = Verbal warning is given
Orange = Time out to reflect
Red = Phone call or note home
If any student has to put his/her clip on red, a note will be sent home so you are aware of the behavior. Please remember to ask your child how their day went.
Homework:
Homework will be sent home each Monday in a homework folder. The homework folders are to be returned completed each Friday. The first homework packet will be sent home at Back to School Night. Detailed instructions will be included. Math homework will be sent home daily.
