Dear LJES Families,

We have started a fundraiser through Spell-a-thon-online.com to celebrate our students learning their 50 grade-level "essential words."

Each child will be tested during the week of FEBRUARY 4th during class.

Teachers and students will be focusing on their 50 words through spelling games and lessons for the next few weeks at school and at home if they wish. During this time, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends can also support our students through their online donations. Registering takes less than a minute - as does soliciting donations from your friends and relatives!

Due to continuing budget cuts, our school has been searching for years for a way to include grandparents and other relatives in our fundraising efforts.  Instead of using our children as salesmen for products we don't need, such as cookie dough, gift wrap, and magazine subscriptions, LJES chose a system that helps our students learn their 50 essential words while NOT reaching into the parents' pockets for more money.

Our goal is to raise enough money to lessen the pressure and reduce the hundreds of volunteer hours put into the Gala each year.  We cannot afford to raise less money than budgeted so we encourage everyone to send out five emails to friends and family asking them to support our children.  If half of the kids in our school each got three donors at $1 per word, LJES would raise $45,000!

If you have any questions, need help registering or logging in, or if don't have access to a computer to register your child, please contact Fran Shimp at FranandTodd@aol.com or Julie MacDonald at juliemacd@me.com

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

1.  I'm nervous about entering my credit card and other personal information online. Will Spell-a-thon-online store the donor's credit card and other personal information?

No! For security reasons, Spell-a-thon-online.com does not store any credit card information.
It's safe to enter your information online.  Absolutely no email addresses or other personal information is shared, rented or sold.

2.  Are donors contributing to the words that the child gets correct on his or her spelling test, or the whole list of 50 words?

Donors are contributing per number of words that the participant is studying (50).  Their donation will be processed immediately, not after the spelling test is taken.

3.  How much of the money raised will stay at LJES?

ALL profits will be donated right to LJES! Usually Spell-a-thon-online donates back 91% of the profits, but since this is an LJES parent-owned business, ALL profits will be coming back to our school.  Other fundraising companies (like candy bar, gift wrap and magazine sales) typically keep 50% of the funds your school collects!

4.  Does my child need to know his or her log in information?

No, your child does not need to know their login information.  To login to take the test or to practice the spelling word in class, the teachers will be using an LJES specific login (similar to Raz Kids).  Once logged in, they select their grade level.  They are then shown a page where every student who is registered in that grade is displayed.  Any teacher, parent volunteer or student can click on the desired name to begin testing or practicing.  There is no access to personal or financial information through this login method.

5.  Why am I asked to enter my child's birthdate?

The birthdate is asked due to COPPA Regulations (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) which is why a pop-up appears stating that an adult must register any child under the age of 13.
