LJES Annual Gala
Theme : “Lights, Camera Action !
It’s Oscar Night at LJES !”
1. What is the Gala? The Gala is the largest fundraiser of the year. It is a dinner, dance and auction. All money raised goes towards art, music and technology as well as hiring extra teachers to keep class sizes low.
2. When is the Gala? March 20, 2010, 6PM to 11PM
3. Where is the Gala? Grand Ballroom La Jolla Marriott, 4240 La Jolla Village Drive, La Jolla, CA 92037.
4. How much are tickets?
$85 per person until March 1st. After March 1st the ticket price will be $95. Tickets may be purchased online by clicking here or at Pizza Wednesdays.
5. How is the seating arranged at the Gala? We have open seating this year.
6. What is the "Raffle"?
There is a Wine Cellar raffle which will be an amazing collection of bottles of wine. There is also a Louis Vuitton handbag raffle. Tickets are $10 each and can be bought at Pizza Wednesdays or click here to purchase online .
7. What is the "Teacher Raffle"?
Each teacher provides a fun outing for the lucky winner. Tickets are $1 and can be bought at Pizza Wednesdays or click here to purchase online. Be sure to include the name of the teacher you want to win.
8. What is "Sponsoring"?
By donating money towards the cost of the gala you will get prominent signage for your company logo or family name. People who donate $500 or more will be invited to an exclusive cocktail party held on March 5th. In addition to this, each donor will be given a party favor the night of the event indicating which level they sponsored. To see the list of available sponsorship levels, please click here. 9. What is the "Auction"? There will be both a live and a silent auction. Live auction items include class projects, "Principal for a Day", big ticket items and more! Silent auction items include everything from expensive jewelry, to vacations, to lessons for music and sports, to homemade dinners. We still need more auction items! The auction represents a major portion of the total income for the Gala and it needs your help! Please contact Christina Andrews at ChrisAndrews@san.rr.com for more information. 10. What will the entertainment be at the Gala?
• Dancing to the hot sound of live band--Goldfish,
• a smokin’ VIP Poker lounge (cost is $100 to enter, grand prize is a trip to Maui)
• Fabulous Red carpet with real live papparrazi
• Joan Rivers style interviewer (who are you wearing?)
• Best dressed award (guys and gals) to be announced that night.
11. Dress Code? You need to look the part—bring out your inner Cher, JLO, or Gwyneth Paltrow. Guys you can channel Elton John, Cary Grant or Matt Damon plus hundreds of others. Remember there will be a nominating committee for best dressed roaming the party that night. Runners up and the grand winner will be announced during the live auction.
11. What will be served at the Gala? The evening will start with a glass of champagne and appetizers during the silent auction. The sit down dinner will begin with a hearts of romaine lettuce salad with herbed croutons, shaved parmesan and Caesar dressing, then a tender pesto grilled chicken entree with sun-dried tomato sauce and sauteed yellow peppers served with wild rice pilaf. The dinner will end with a chocolate fantasy cake and Starbuck's premium roast coffee and decaffeinated coffee and Tazo brand herbal teas. All evening long there will be a no-host bar.
12. What is the schedule for the evening? The silent auction and gaming tables will open at 6 PM. Different sections of the silent auciton will close at staggered times, with the last one closing at 7:30 PM. After everyone sits, the live auction will begin as dinner is being served. Dancing to the band will start right after dinner and go until 11 PM. Throughout the night, winners of the raffles will be announced!
13. Where does the money go? 100% of all the Gala proceeds go to Friends of La Jolla Elementary School, Inc. Thanks to Friends, LJES has art, music, technology, lower class size and so much more! 14. WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP? We've been waiting for you to ask this question.... Aside from the obvious answer of "Buy raffle tickets, sponsor activities, bid on auction items and party your butt off at the Gala," we have the following suggestions:
* Donate silent and live auction items (click here for a donor form)
* Donate bottles of wine for the raffle
* Invite your family and friends to attend the Gala
* Sign up to help set up or take down
* Find out if your company would sponsor part of the Gala. It's great advertising!
