4th and 5th Grade Band

4th and 5th Grade Band

Congratulations!  If your child is in 4th or 5th grade, he or she is eligible to join band or strings this year! No experience is necessary. All you have to do to sign up for band or orchestra is to fill out this form and return it to your teacher by September 14, 2013. Classes meet twice a week (first class is 9/16/13).

Instruction will be provided on the following Instruments :
VIOLIN
FLUTE
TRUMPET
VIOLA
CLARINET
TROMBONE
CELLO
SAXOPHONE
BARITONE
String bass is also available for orchestra students.

Commitment
Please consider this decision carefully. Your child will miss their regular class twice a week to participate in music. Each student who participates in music will be responsible to make up the work missed in class. In addition, we ask that once your child makes the commitment to instrumental music, he/she stay with the program for the remainder of the year. Band/String students are expected to attend each rehearsal and performance with their instrument, music book and supplies. Your child will be making a commitment to complete one full year of instrumental music, practice a minimum of 15 minutes per day, four days a week, and maintain satisfactory grades in their regular schoolwork.

Instrument
The instrument selected for study may be rented or purchased from a music store that specializes in band or stringed instruments. They generally cost $15-$25 per month (saxophones may be a little more expensive.) You may purchase or rent an instrument right away, or you can have your child come to a couple of music classes to determine which instrument would be best. There are a limited amount of district instruments available for those who cannot afford to buy or rent an instrument.

I look forward to working with your child. Please feel free to contact me through the school any time.
Sincerely,

Matthew Lyons, Band Director
